Sumner Beach Sumner would be one of the most friendly beaches in Christchurch to surf. With a shallow sandy beach it makes for perfect conditions to be able to walk a distance out into the break and feel comfortable with the depth to gain confidence when falling off and getting back out.

New Brighton One of Christchurch's local surfing beaches. The long beach has many breaks where the wave peaks, all the way down the beach being a beach break the wave isn't ever super reliable. The south ramp side of the newly built New Brighton pier can produce some good waves, but be careful surfing close to the structure. Good fun waves that can be much better than they look form the shore, and you can usually find a wave to make your own.

Taylors Mistake Home to some of the best surf in Christchurch, Taylors Mistake can be a very popular place! The wave is a beach break on a sandy beach with both right and left hander waves on offer, which can be both powerful and fast. Good for all surfers. As with all surf breaks when they become busy / crowded be sure to follow the rules, respect the locals. and watch out for swimmers.
