Experience the full beauty of the Twin Coast Cycle Trail over 2 days (day 1 45km | day 2 44km) while staying overnight in Paihia. Provided for you, as part of our self guided package, are your bikes and shuttles to and from the start and end of each days ride. The Twin Coast Cycle Trail is predominantly off the main road, an easy gradient and achievable by most levels of fitness so great for all ages and abilities.

Day 1: Depart from Paihia (08:30) in the morning, and get dropped at Kaikohe with your bikes to start the ride, the trail is predominantly downhill from Kaikohe to Opua (45km) and takes you along tunnels, swing and rail bridges, traditional Maori community buildings (Marae) and historic towns. Check out the famous Huntertwasser Toilets and Vintage Railway and Steamtrain running through Kawakawa where the train operates in the weekdays and some holiday, possible to add to your trip. Finish by following the meandering Kawakawa River through one of the most scenic sections of the trail to the seaside town of Opua. Our shuttles service will collect you from Opua (12:30 or 14:30) and take you back to your Paihia or your accommodation.

Day 2: Depart Paihia at 08:30 we head to Kaikohe for the second day of 44km riding. This time, you will be riding in the opposite direction to Day 1 to get the downhill gradient of the trail! Take in the picturesque Lake Omapere on the old Rail Corridor and down through the beautiful Utakura Valley, following waterways through New Zealand's untouched back-country farmland. Finish your ride on a 2km boardwalk over the mangroves before a cold drink or brew at the famous Horeke Tavern, right on the edge of the Hokianga Harbour. Your shuttle will collect you here at Horeke (15:30) and take you back to Paihia or your accommodation.
